What is cut vinyl?

Our designs are made using cut vinyl, which means they do not have a transparent or white background. The vinyl is cut to the exact shape of the design (letters, silhouettes or graphics) and, once applied, only the design itself remains visible on the surface.

How is the decal supplied?

Each decal is supplied in three layers:

  • Backing paper (silicone paper): protects the adhesive on the back.
  • Vinyl (the design): the part that will remain permanently attached.
  • Transfer tape: a top tape or film that keeps the design aligned and allows it to be applied in one single piece.

Before you start (very important)

  • Suitable surface: it must be smooth, clean and non-porous. Avoid rough walls or flaking paint.
  • Cleaning: clean the surface thoroughly and make sure it is completely dry. On greasy surfaces (car, helmet, appliances), use alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
  • Freshly painted walls: wait until the paint has fully cured before applying the vinyl.
  • Recommended temperature: between 15 °C and 25 °C. Avoid applying in cold, extreme heat or humidity.

Recommended tools: masking tape (painter’s tape), a plastic card or squeegee, and a soft cloth.

Quick method (small decals)

  1. Secure the transfer tape: with the decal still assembled, rub over the transfer tape with a card to ensure the vinyl adheres well to it.
  2. Remove the backing paper: turn the decal face down and slowly peel away the backing paper. If any part of the vinyl stays on the paper, lay it back down and rub the transfer tape again.
  3. Position and apply: place the vinyl on the surface and smooth it out with the card from the centre outwards.
  4. Remove the transfer tape: peel it off slowly, keeping it very close to the surface, almost parallel. Do not pull upwards.
  5. Bubbles: if small bubbles appear, prick them with a fine needle and gently push the air out.

“Hinge” method (medium and large decals)

This method is highly recommended for larger decals, as it prevents the design from shifting during application.

  1. Position and align: place the decal in its final position without removing anything and check alignment and level.
  2. Create the hinge: secure one side (or the top edge) with masking tape, creating a “hinge”.
  3. Lift the decal: open the decal using the tape as a hinge.
  4. Remove the backing paper: slowly peel away the backing paper. If the vinyl does not stay on the transfer tape, lay it back down and rub again.
  5. Lower and apply in sections: gradually lower the vinyl while smoothing it with the card from the centre outwards.
  6. Final check: firmly rub over the entire design, especially edges and thin details.
  7. Remove the transfer tape: peel it off slowly, keeping it almost parallel to the surface.

Tip: for very large decals, it is advisable to have a second person help you to prevent the adhesive from sticking to itself.

Common issues and solutions

  • The vinyl stays on the backing paper: lay it back down, rub the transfer tape firmly and try peeling again.
  • Part of the vinyl lifts when removing the transfer tape: stop, lay the tape back down, rub again and peel more slowly.
  • Small bubbles: prick with a fine needle and gently press the air towards the hole.

By following these steps patiently, you will achieve a clean, professional and long-lasting result.
